Art Athina 2011 opening

Art Athina certainly forms a great opportunity to take a look at all of Athens’ top art galleries at just one place, along with some important ones from abroad. You can catch a quick glimpse at where contemporary art stands right now and maybe make some conclusions on whether it is transmitting society’s pulse or not . This year it was held at the Tae Kwon Do arena, P.Faliro, the location was very good in my opinion, and there was also a really good VIP Lounge designed by R|C|Tech .One of the few artworks that drew my attention. Maybe slightly biased, though, as Vlassis Kaniaris -recently diseased- has almost always been one of my favourite greek artists… On the other hand, it’s good to see your taste consolidating through the years…

Arghh! Monsters in Fashion | a curious exhibition opening

Yesterday night I attended the opening of an exhibition at Benaki Museum (Pireos anex). The exhibition is about “monstruous” fashion creations from all around the world, and it is true that among the exhibits one can see really extraodinary things. I have an objection though concerning the arrangement of the objects in space  as they were creating too much of a dense visual effect and maybe smothering each other. Also, the materiality of the explanatory signs or texts was sort of lacking in quality…The opening-day program schedule also included a live performance with people actually wearing some of the exhibits as well as live music, making it sure worth attending!
